You to fill it through the dipstick hole. You need Honda GN4 10w30 4-stroke oil (or equivalent). You need 3 quarts.

Well...I have a 2007 Honda Rancher, as with the OPs....I"m sitting below looking in ~ the Honda shop hands-on (61HP400)....page 4-13. It specifically says to fill through the "Filler cap/dipstick".....hence the surname "Filler cap/dipstick". That"s the method I"ve fill the crankcase every time I"ve readjusted the oil and also filter, and also I"ve done it without "making a mess". And, because these machines have a wet clutch, you could want to it is in careful about what friction modifiers are in the automotive oils that you can substitute. I damaged a wet clutch on a motorcycle through substituting automotive oil one time. Also draining the automotive oil and refilling through the correct oil wouldn"t stop it native slipping....I had actually to change the fiber bowl in the clutch. If ns was walking to shot to conserve a couple of cents by substituting oils, I"d use one of the oils especially formulated because that motorcycles and ATVs the meets the JASO T 903 criter (MA in this case) fairly than making use of automotive oil.
