I have inquired about transforming the transmission oil in my 2000 Polaris 500 Sportsman before and also I have decided to adjust it this weekend. I checked out the dealer and bought AGL gearcase lubricant and also a company manual for future projects. However, the hand-operated states to usage Polaris man-made gearcase lubricant (part #2871478) in year 1996-2002. Models 2003 and newer must use AGL gearcase lubricant (part #2873602). Does anyone know have the right to I use the AGL in my maker or perform I have to make another trip come the dealer?

The latter number is simply a "new and also improved" version of the old number stuff. Polaris does this top top a regular basis.

Use full synth bar chain oil only on polo transmissions. No - girlfriend really should use a full synth bar chain lubricant. If friend don"t desire to spend the huge bucks top top polo, purple wurple or every little thing at least acquire wallymart full synth, the 9.97 because that a gallon (2 alters worth). Motor oil is great (but does no have certain additives for the task at hand) and yes i"ve offered motor oil to replace bar chain oil ~ above a cheap chain witnessed in a pinch however i would certainly not use it in place of a rather expensive tranmission"s fluid pinch or not. Its just not precious it and also costs the same or less to usage wallystuff. Happiness! :cowboy:

Tell me what is therefore special about a Polaris transmission.ABSOLUTELY NOTHING every it is space a couple of gears and also a chain. If you can run 5W20 motor oil in a high reving auto with gears and also chains why can"t you operation it in a slow relocating ATV transmission. YOU have the right to All my friends execute it and I perform it and it works. You don"t require all those additive you speak about. I have over 10000 miles on both mine tansmissions and they change and job-related as good as they did in ~ 0 miles. Placed what you desire in it however motor oil works.Ronnie
One question. What was the magic brew because that Polaris transmissions long prior to they came up v the pretty bottles and also the magic infection oil.Answer motor oil
Since i have already purchased the AGL ns am walk to use it. Ns was concerned around the different type but sounds choose it wouldn"t matter. It provides sense lock updated the product over the years. Many thanks for every the advise! walk anyone make a cross reference chart for every these unique "Polaris Lubricants"? somebody is making them because that Polaris.
Tell me what is for this reason special around a Polaris transmission.ABSOLUTELY nothing ... You don"t require all those additives you talk about.Ronnie
Ronnie, you are right nothing special around the polo transmissions top top sporties. But i didn"t speak they were Special, I said they are Expensive to replace. Now a chain bar lub is different and also Special compared to motor oil. That is tackier and made to cling much more because there is no push to lube in these transmissions compared to engines. I understand you acquired lots of mile with simply motor oil, good for you. Wally"s complete synth bar oil still stays to it is in beaten on price, what complete synth motor oil compares? Hey the a totally free country, do as you like and I"ll execute as i like, same enough? :cowboy:

I"m no sure how much castle "update" the product itself however they perform update the bottles and names come fancier packaging and much more catchy names on a regular basis. I doubt it"s probably more about marketing than any kind of drastic changes to the oil itself. Just like tooth dough or laundry detergent...if it"s brand-new and boosted with the extra power and also protection the hexaflouraabracadabra benefitall that offers it supervisor duper whitening properties...it just MUST be much better (and naturally prices more) than just plain old stakes or Tide!!
I use the 5/20 oil in mine trans with good results and also my device is used mainly for plowing snow, I change the oil possibly every 2 years, don"t require the Polaris line oils.
Does anyone recognize who manufactures and packages the oil/lubricants for Polaris? part oil company somewhere is private labeling for Polaris. After the Polaris can overcharge all of us for commodities with their surname on the package.
